Ecology? What does that even mean?
They’re against me? Job killers!
I put masons, carpenters and electricians to work
I inflate housing starts - the economy
I make the land productive and useful (for me)
My improvements increase property taxes

I pay for the land and the house
You pay me double for the finished product
I take the risks
I bounce back from bankruptcy
And take more risks
And get rich – quick

Architect? Good design?
No! I watch the profit line
I’ll use the same plans from the last house
Move a window here
Change a roofline there
You’ll never notice

Cut down all the trees
Replace them with lawns, flower beds, and exotic shrubbery
That you light at night
Contractor’s mix grass seed
Quick green lawn
It’ll die after you buy

Rich coverlet of grass, uniform, weedless
Dandelions growing? Clover? Crab grass?
Just add more pesticides
It’s sustainable (for me)

Grand window above the front door
Framing the chandelier
It’s not flashy
You deserve luxury
Two car garage? Make it three!

You need a professional kitchen
You can learn to cook
You need more room
More rooms that is
Where are you going to put the home theater?

You’ll buy that house
You’ll follow the herd
I know what’s best for you and yours
You bought it, you back it
Don’t fall behind in status
Or your monthly payments

Knucklehead or not
I call the shots
Shaping our surroundings, minds, public opinion, culture
I have friends on the zoning board that owe me favors
I’ll get their approval

O sweet suburban sprawl!
I get the money upfront
You live with the mess later on
How about a strip mall?
Anchor it with a big box store

They see a beautiful grove of trees
I see a cul-de-sac
They see a pristine, unaltered landscape
I see a subdivision
Ponzi scheme? How dare they!
