Moynihan Known for Disagreeableness; 10/26/17 From The New Canaan Advertiser - by Victor Alvarez

What follows is a letter I wrote on October 21, 2017 that got published in the New Canaan Advertiser in the October 26, 2017 edition. It concerns a right-wing candidate for first selectman who was running against a friend of mine, Kit Devereaux.

Dear Editor,

In this paper’s article “Moynihan’s plan for cell service differs from Devereaux’s” (10/19/17), Moynihan is mentioned or quoted 14 times to Deveraux’s 3, despite Devereaux’s solid ideas and experience concerning this and other issues.

I read letters here in support of Moynihan’s character, and yet his disagreeableness toward colleagues, professionals, and volunteers in this town is generally known. Especially troubling are his proud associations with and ongoing support for Donald Trump and Paul Manafort, despite their morally and legally questionable actions.

In questions put to both candidates by this paper, Kit Devereaux replies clearly and succinctly, and is supported by a history of decisive, collegial, nonpartisan action. Her achievements—on Town Council, Board of Finance, as President of the League of Women Voters, as a co-chair of Mayfair, and more—result from sharp financial focus, broad expertise, and a collaborative style. She gets things done, and she doesn’t have to mow you down to do it.

Kit Devereaux is a strong fiscal watchdog who connects with the heart of New Canaan. She has earned my vote.
