Biography

Both of my parents fled the Communist revolution in Cuba in 1960, arriving in the U.S. with a couple of suitcases and the desire to live in freedom. They started over, initially in New York City where I was born, and later continued their pursuit of the American dream in Bergen County, New Jersey, where my three siblings and I were raised. Life wasn't always easy, but we had a great childhood: playing on our block, riding bikes to school, going into New York City for culture and taking advantage of every opportunity. For my parents, education was key.

After getting my undergraduate degree in Finance from Boston University, I worked as an option trader on the floor of the American Stock Exchange, and as an Information Specialist at UBS and later S.G. Cowen Securities, where I earned an MBA at Columbia University while working full time. I then jumped to a small tech startup, worked my way up to Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and Corporate Secretary, and prepared the company for acquisition by Elsevier, Inc.*, a global company with $3 billion in annual revenue where I'm currently Business Controller for the Engineering Business unit.

My wife and I moved to New Canaan with our two sons in 2009 and fell in love with the community. Like many, it was the excellent schools that drew us, but there's so much more keeping us here: Metro North into the city, New Canaan's vibrant downtown, our church and library, Stamford's cultural offerings, great healthcare, open spaces like Waveny and Bartlett Arboretum, and more. Commuting into the city left just enough time for raising our boys and volunteering as a member of New Canaan's Board of Finance, Cub Scout den leader, Sunday School teacher and Mayfair worker at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, math tutor, and spending time with neighbors and friends who've made this area home.
