Sonnet #2

Deposited into the melting pot
In New York's harbor he saw the statue
Exiled from his country, that was his lot
The symbol of freedom was his first view

As a mechanic he drew plans by hand
A gifted engineer and creator
Becoming one of the best in the land
Improving Liberty's elevator

With a strong work ethic he raised me well
I owe him a big debt of gratitude
It warms my heart that I have this to tell
The payment of this debt goes to my brood

His diligence was always a strong trait
A brave and worthy man to emulate
